What Is MOTS-c?

MOTS-c is a mitochondrial-derived, 16–amino acid peptide that has gained interest for its role in supporting metabolic balance, insulin sensitivity, and cellular energy regulation. Unlike most peptides, MOTS-c is encoded directly within mitochondrial DNA, allowing it to interact with both the mitochondria and the cell nucleus to influence gene activity.

Current research suggests that MOTS-c may help protect against age-related metabolic decline, diet-induced obesity, and insulin resistance, based on findings from laboratory and animal studies. While these results are promising, its safety and effectiveness in humans are not yet clinically confirmed. Anecdotal reports from online users have mentioned side effects such as increased heart rate and difficulty sleeping.
