What Is MOTS-c?

MOTS-c is a mitochondrial-derived, 16–amino acid peptide that has gained interest for its role in supporting metabolic balance, insulin sensitivity, and cellular energy regulation. Unlike most peptides, MOTS-c is encoded directly within mitochondrial DNA, allowing it to interact with both the mitochondria and the cell nucleus to influence gene activity.

Current research suggests that MOTS-c may help protect against age-related metabolic decline, diet-induced obesity, and insulin resistance, based on findings from laboratory and animal studies. While these results are promising, its safety and effectiveness in humans are not yet clinically confirmed.
